Located in the California San Francisco Bay Area, The McKinnon Institute provides professional massage training in a modular approach  that gives students substantial control of the choice, timing and order of their classes. Our certificate programs are packaged to best accommodate the needs and interests expressed by our students while keeping a close eye on changes nationally that are affecting the field.

Basic training programs in either Swedish or Asian Systems help in learning a skill which allows to choose the modalities in which one would most enjoy working. Certificate training is packaged to best accommodate the needs and interests expressed by the students while keeping a close eye on changes nationally that will affect the field in times to come.
 

Swedish Massage Certificate - 100 Hours (Swedish Massage Demonstration and Practice — 80 hours; Anatomy & Physiology A — 15 hours

Business, Ethics & Hygiene— 5 hours
The techniques consist of long muscle strokes on the skin, using lotion or oil. The work is done on a massage table. A wide variety of techniques for a full body massage will be covered, along with body usage, mechanics, contraindications, tailoring sessions, and side lying massage.

Asian Systems Certificate — 142 Hours (Shiatsu - 56 hours ; Acupressure - 56 hours ;Anatomy & Physiology B - 30 hours )
Incorporates both Japanese & Chinese styles of bodywork. This program will explore meridian flow and release work, introduction to five-element theory, yin/yang theory, movement/breath work and Hara energy building

Sports & Deep Tissue Certificate---142 Hours (Sports Massage - 40 hours ;Deep Tissue - 40 hours; Reflexology - 24 hours ;Anatomy & Physiology C - 30 hours;4 hours First Aid and 4 hours CPR)

The Sports & Deep Tissue program covers Assessing complaints ;Developing strategies ;Using proper body mechanics ;Using reflexology and Understanding reflexes .

Touch for Diverse Populations Certificate (TFDP) 134 Hours (Pregnant Women / Infant Massage — 16 hours ; Working with the Elderly & Terminally Ill — 32 hours ; Working with Chronically Ill and Disabled — 32 hours; Working with Survivors of Trauma — 24 hours ; Anatomy & Physiology D — 30 hours)
